An echocardiogram, also known as a cardiac ultrasound, is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that uses sound waves to create images of a pet’s heart. It allows a veterinarian to assess the health of a pet’s heart in real time.
What it shows
The size, shape, and thickness of the heart walls, how well the heart is pumping, and if there are any abnormalities in the heart’s structure or blood flow.
What it can detect
Birth defects, heart disease, cardiac tumors, and some heartworm infections.
